PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Stetson women's golf closed out its season-opening tournament with its second-best round of the week Tuesday, carding a 9-over 293 to finish 10th at the Golfweek Fall Challenge at Caledonia Golf & Fish Club.
The Hatters finished the three-day event at 26-over 878 following rounds of 286, 299 and 293. Stetson entered the final round tied for 11th before moving up one spot to secure a top-10 finish in the 23-team field.
Bridget Butler led the Hatters individually, finishing tied for fifth at 1-over 214. After opening with a 1-over 72, Butler fired a 2-under 69 in Monday's second round before closing with a 2-over 73 on Tuesday. Her performance marked another strong showing after she finished tied for fourth at the Women's National Golf Invitational to close last season.
Isaki Sakashita finished tied for 19th at 4-over 217. The reigning ASUN Golfer of the Year opened the tournament with a 2-under 69 before rounds of 76 and 72.
Making her Stetson debut, Clara Willem finished tied for 43rd at 8-over 221. The Cincinnati transfer posted rounds of 72, 77 and 72, including a 1-over effort in Tuesday's final round.
Anna Huettl finished tied for 77th at 15-over 228 following rounds of 73, 78 and 77, while Maggie Potash rounded out the Stetson lineup tied for 85th at 16-over 229 with rounds of 76, 77 and 76.
UNCW captured the team title at 2-over 854, three shots ahead of Campbell. Stetson's 878 placed the Hatters three shots ahead of 11th-place UNCG and five ahead of ASUN foe Lipscomb.
The Hatters will return to action at the Pirate Collegiate Classic for their second tournament of the fall.
