DELAND, Fla. — Stetson women's soccer opens ASUN play Thursday, Sept. 24, when the Hatters welcome West Florida to the Athletic Training Center for a 7 p.m. matchup as part of International Night. Stetson will then close out the weekend Sunday, Sept. 27, when the Hatters host Queens at the ATC.
Scouting the Hatters
Stetson enters conference play coming off its first victory of the season, a 3-0 shutout win over Eckerd on Saturday. The Hatters found the back of the net three times in the victory, including two first career goals, while putting nine of their 10 shots on goal.
Clare Boesel played a key role in the victory, making eight saves to record her first shutout of the season. The performance earned the senior goalkeeper ASUN Goalkeeper of the Week honors, marking her first conference weekly award of the season. Boesel enters Thursday's matchup with a .636 save percentage and 28 saves across 542 minutes in goal for the Hatters.
Ava McKay helped lead the Hatters' offensive breakthrough against Eckerd, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career in the first half before adding another in the second half. Both goals came off assists from Stella Comana, who recorded the first multi-assist match of her career. Amelia Majtczak also scored her first collegiate goal, finding the back of the net just over two minutes into the second half off an assist from Julianna Liguori.
Stetson has recorded 43 shots through its first seven matches, including a season-high 10 against both Troy and Eckerd. Eva McCoy leads the Hatters with nine shots, followed by Payton Quinones with seven. Quinones has also been Stetson's most accurate attacking option, leading the team with four shots on goal.
As a team, the Hatters are averaging 6.1 shots per game and have put 44.2 percent of their attempts on goal. Stetson's goalkeepers have combined for a .660 save percentage while posting a 2.29 goals-against average.
Scouting the Argonauts
West Florida enters Thursday's matchup with a 4-0-1 record and is coming off a draw against Southern University.
The Argonauts are led by Eva Mowery, who has tallied three goals on 15 shots this season. Six of her 15 shots have been on goal, giving her a .400 shots-on-goal percentage. Lucia Revuelto, Kaitlyn Herb and Dolev Ovadya have each tallied two goals this season, while Olof Thorvaldsdottir has added one.
Karla Guzman-Ortiz has started all five matches for West Florida, making 17 saves while posting two shutouts. Guzman-Ortiz carries a 0.60 goals-against average and a .850 save percentage into Thursday's matchup after playing all 450 minutes in goal.
As a team, the Argonauts are averaging 2.2 goals per game on 17.6 shots.
Scouting the Royals
Queens enters the week with a 1-6-1 record and will face FGCU on Thursday before making the trip to DeLand for Sunday's matchup with the Hatters.
The Royals are led by McKayla Budion, who has tallied three goals on eight shots this season. Seven of her eight shots have been on goal, while Grace Acevedo, Tamia Ford and Emma Miller have also found the back of the net. Acevedo leads Queens with two assists.
Emily Protiva has played 438 minutes in goal and has recorded 30 saves with a .714 save percentage. Ava Kreusling has added 281 minutes in goal, making 24 saves while carrying a .750 save percentage into the week.
Series History
Thursday's matchup will mark the second all-time meeting between Stetson and West Florida and the second meeting between the teams this season.
Sunday's matchup against Queens will be the seventh all-time meeting between the Hatters and Royals. Stetson holds a 5-1 advantage in the series.
