DeLand, Fla. ? In a pitcher's dual the UCF Golden Knights found the one run they needed to take a no-hitter win against the Hatters Wednesday evening at the Patricia Wilson Field.
Senior Heather Colding took the mound for the Hatters in Wednesday's game. Colding allowed zero hits until the sixth inning when Kacie Feaster singled. After that the Golden Knights started to build momentum, producing two more singles, including an RBI single by Amber Lamb to give UCF the lead.
Colding ended the night having pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits with five strikeouts. Colding's record now stands at 9-7 for the season.
The Hatters could not produce any hits off the pitching off Allison Kime. Kime pitched a no-hitter against the Hatters as well as throwing seven strikouts to break UCF's all-time strikeout record.
Stetson came close to tying the game in the bottom of the seventh when sophomore Andrea Migliori (Winter Garden, Fla.) stepped to the plate and hammered the ball out to left field. The ball looked to be in play as it flew high over the fence, but was ruled foul. The pitcher quickly decided to intentionally walk Migliori, bringing up junior Blythe Golden (Marianna, Fla.).
Golden hit a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runner. Junior Lindsay Wightman came up next and grounded out to second, but advanced the runner to third. Freshman Katie Lawrence stepped to the plate but grounded out to third for the last out.
The Hatters move to 30-14 overall.
Next up the Hatters hit the road to take on Kennesaw State and Mercer. Stetson will face Kennesaw State first, in a double header that starts at 3:00 pm on Friday, April 6. Then the Hatters will travel to Macon, Georgia to take on Mercer for a double header starting at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 7.
