Nashville, Tenn. ? Inclement weather forced the delay and move of the Stetson-Lipscomb men's tennis match to indoor courts late last night but the 58th-ranked Hatters showed no ill effects from the delay, sweeping the Bisons 7-0 to improve to 17-4 overall and 7-1 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Stetson won all six singles matches in straight sets.
Junior Serguei Boulanov (Venice, Fla.) enjoyed a dominating 6-1, 6-0 win at #4 singles over Josh McArdle to jumpstart the Hatters in singles play. Senior Joey Jones (Titusville, Fla.) finished off Jeff West 6-1, 6-1 at #2 singles while freshman Christopher Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) recorded a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over James Murrell at the #6 position.
The doubles teams of Boulanov/Swanteson along with Jones and his partner, sophomore Hicham Laalej (Meknes, Morocco) gave Stetson the doubles point with 8-4 and 8-3 victories, respectively, at the #2 and #3 slots.
The win allowed Stetson to maintain its grip on the #2 seed in the upcoming Atlantic Sun conference tournament. In the overall conference standings, the Hatters are tied with USC Upstate for second place at 7-1, trailing only 8-0 ETSU, ranked 46th in the nation.
The Hatters complete their two-match road trip to Nashville by taking on Belmont on Saturday.
