Daytona Beach, Fla. ? The 65th-ranked Stetson men's tennis team enjoyed a strong start to its 2009 spring campaign with a 7-0 sweep of host Bethune-Cookman (0-2) this afternoon at City Island Tennis Center. The Hatters won all three doubles matches and took each of six singles matches in straight sets.
Sophomore Chris Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) and freshman Alon DeKoker (Longboat Key, Fla.) each dropped only one game in their wins at #5 and #6 singles while freshmen Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy) and Maksim Levanovich (Minsk, Belarus) picked up wins with only four games dropped.
Stetson will step out of sunny Florida and head to frigid Ohio for the ITA Season Kickoff this weekend; the Hatters will first visit Cleveland State at 7 p.m. Thursday to get acclimated before heading down to Columbus to take on #1 Ohio State in the first round of the tournament 2 p.m. Saturday. The Hatters will also face either 28th-ranked Virginia Tech or #42 New Mexico on Sunday at OSU.
