Stetson Picks Up 5-2 Win Over Belmont

DeLand, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team (13-7, 5-2 Atlantic Sun) completed a home sweep of the A-Sun's Nashville schools with a 5-2 win over Belmont (0-8, 0-5 A-Sun) at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center on Saturday.  The Hatters rallied after dropping the doubles point with five wins in six singles matches.  Senior Alex Hackett (Surrey, England) and freshman Hans Adrian Riseng (Oslo, Norway) were double winners for Stetson.

Although Hackett and Riseng won their Court 3 doubles match, the Bruins picked up wins in the other two matches to take a 1-0 lead into singles.  Although Belmont's Rodrigo Amaral would claim a 6-3, 6-1 win at #1 singles, that was the end of the visiting team's scoring as all five other singles matches went to the Hatters in straight sets.

Hackett won 6-0, 6-2 on Court 5 over Christopher Bates with sophomore Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) also recording a perfect set in a 6-4, 6-0 closeout of Felipe Cirne Lima on Court 4.  Riseng earned his second win of the day by beating Joao Paoliello 6-1, 6-1 on Court 6.  Sophomore Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy) and junior Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway) were victorious in two sets as well.

Stetson makes a two-match road trip to Tennessee next weekend, visiting non-conference opponent Chattanooga on Friday and going up against archrival and four-time defending A-Sun tournament champion ETSU on Saturday in Johnson City.
