Men?s Tennis Earns Road Win at Lipscomb, 4-1

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Stetson University men's tennis team won its third match in a row, with a convincing 4-1 decision over Lipscomb, Friday afternoon. The Hatters and Bison completed just four of six singles matches as both teams switched to a clinch format because of the heavy rain forecasted for the Nashville area on Friday.

Stetson (9-8, 4-2) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after taking two of three doubles matches. Simon Julin and Graham Ball were victorious on court No. 3 with an 8-4 decision, while Nathan Debut and partner Hans Adrian Riseng clinched the team point on court No. 2 by an 8-7(6) score,

The Hatters then extended their lead with wins by Cahit Kapukiran's (6-2, 6-2) on court No. 4 and Debut (6-4, 7-5) on court No. 1.

Laurynas Antropikas clinched the team victory for the Hatters with his (7-6(5), 6-3) win on court No. 2, leaving Ball and Chester Espie's matches unfinished on courts No. 5 and 6 respectively.

The Bison claimed their sole singles win on court No. 3, while they mustered one victory during doubles play at the No. 1 court.

“This was a very good win on the road," said Associate Head Coach Christophe Noblet. "The doubles point came down to the number two spot, where Hans and Nathan showed some great leadership to clinch the match.”

Stetson's three match winning streak has come at the right time, as all three have been against A-Sun opponents.

“It is important to stay focused on the next task at hand," Noblet said. "NKU is a solid team and we need to be ready for another challenging road contest.”

The Hatters will look for their fourth in row against a conference foe on Saturday as they have a quick turnaround from Friday's contest with Lipscomb. SU heads to Northern Kentucky overnight to take on the Norse in a Saturday match, scheduled for 2 p.m. in Highland Heights.
