Hatters Dominate App State

Box Score Stetson men's tennis cruised to a 6-1 win over Appalachian State on Sunday at Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.

The Hatters (8-2) dominated play against the Mountaineers (7-5), easily winning doubles and taking five of six singles matches.

"I think today was the most "unselfish" match we played this season," Stetson head coach Christophe Noblet said. "App State beat us 4-0 two years ago, so it was not going to be an easy match. Everyone was dedicated to the team success and helping each other. We felt that from the warm-up and throughout the entire match. This is important as some matches will come down to the wire, and that attitude is what gets you over the top."

Stetson opened the match with a strong effort in doubles. Loic Blanco & Antoine Sanchez earned a 6-3 win at No. 3, and Malik Bhatnagar & Angus Bradshaw followed quickly behind with a 6-4 decision at No. 2.
Bhatnagar continued his impressive spring and ran his dual match record to 9-0 with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles. William Shkrob followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5 to make it 3-0.
Sanchez clinched the match for Stetson with a 6-2, 6-4 win at no. 3. App State got on the board with a win at No. 1, but Bradshaw and Coilin MacNamara secured wins at Nos. 4 & 6, respectively, with Bradshaw winning his second three-set match in as many days.
"This was a good weekend for us, and we need to continue to learn each and every day," Noblet said. "We are looking forward to a tough one against Valpo on Wednesday."
The Hatters host Valparaiso, 5 p.m., Wednesday.
