Hatters Add Two for Next Season

Stetson men's tennis head coach Christophe Noblet today announced the signing of Alexandre Hillhouse (Toulose, France) and Sven Thiergard (Dusseldorf, Germany) for the 2019-20 academic year.
 
Hillhouse is a 6-time regional champion as well as a former French doubles champion. In 2018, his French national ranking was -2/6 and his best ITF ranking was 663 in 2018.
 
Hillhouse also has several singles victories over players ranked by both the ITF and the ATP, including a pair of wins against Arthur Reymond, who owns a No. 849 ranking in the ATP. He also owns victories over Karlins Ozolins and Sean Cuenin, two players ranked in the ITF Top 250.
 
"Alex is already a very well established player in France, but he is far from having reached his ceiling," Noblet said. "He is a natural competitor, knows how to win, and has a tremendous tennis IQ. He will blossom in college and have an immediate impact on the team. More importantly, he truly wants the team to succeed which is what we are looking for in a 'Team First' environment. Welcome to the family, Alex."
 
Thiergard led his high school team to the finals of the National Schoolsport Tennis Championship in Germany. As a singles player, he has been ranked a high a 124th in Europe and 876th by the ITF. In 2017, he was the No. 10-ranked junior player in Germany and is currently ranked 15th.
 
"Sven is a wonderful addition to our team," Noblet said. "He truly embodies our core values, and will fit right in our 'Team First' culture. Sven is a blue-collar athlete, and will benefit greatly from our training regimen. I am looking forward to working with him and helping maximize his potential. We are excited to have him join the Hatters family."
 
A two-time state champion, Thiergard als finished third at the Doubles National German Championships, nad has 131 singles victories and 19 doubles wins in the last two years. Among those singles victories is a triumph over Benedict Kurz, the No. 19-ranked European.
