Hatters head to Tallahassee for three matches to open the 2022 season

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's tennis team gets set to open the 2022 season Friday evening as the Hatters travel to Tallahassee for three matches on the campus of Florida State, beginning with South Alabama at 5p.m. Then on Saturday, Jan. 22, the Hatters face both Samford University and Florida State at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.

2021 Recap
Stetson comes off a 2021 season in which the Hatters defeated both North Florida and Kennesaw State during the regular season, earning the Hatters the number two seed in the South Division in the 2021 ASUN Championship. Stetson finished the season with four total wins as the Hatters defeated both Mercer and Furman in non-conference action.

Diogo Marques was the only Hatter to earn postseason recognition as the Hatters captain earned Second-Team All-Conference honors. Marques led the squad with a 7-3 record as he claimed three wins on court one and four on court two. Marques and 2021 graduate Antoine Sanchez led the Hatters in doubles wins as the duo picked up five throughout the year and only suffered one loss.

All-Time Series
Stetson and South Alabama have competed five times dating back to 2007. The Jaguars hold a 3-2 edge over the Hatters as South Alabama topped Stetson 4-1 the last time the two schools faced off back on Jan. 31, 2016. The Hatters look to even the series on Friday.

Stetson last faced Samford back on March 4, 2015, as the Hatters edged out the Bulldogs 4-3 in Birmingham. A few weeks earlier in Feb. 2015, Stetson squared off against Florida State and the Seminoles got the best of the Hatters 4-0.

The 2022 Hatters
Stetson enters play on Friday with a veteran lineup as the Hatters boast six seniors. Head coach Christophe Noblet welcomed three new additions to the squad as Tristan Dumas, Ervin Haris Eminefendic and Sami Ozzor join the Hatters in 2022.

Looking Ahead
After Stetson's three-match road trip to Tallahassee, the Hatters host Florida National in their 2022 home opener on Friday, Jan. 28. First serve is at 3 p.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
