Hatters fall 4-0 to South Alabama in 2022 season opener

Box Score Tallahassee, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's tennis team opened its 2022 season on the road Friday evening as the Hatters dropped a 4-0 decision to South Alabama at Florida State.

The Hatters (0-1) fell behind early as the Jaguars took the first two matches of doubles action to take a 1-0 advantage.

In singles competition, Stetson put up a hard-fought battle, but both Diogo Marques and Alexandre Hillhouse fell 2-0 in their matches to Sébastien Collard and Louis Delcour, respectively.  Clement Hamel showed some prowess on court three as the senior took USA's Maxime St-Hilaire to three sets but ultimately fell 7-5 in the third set as the Jaguars took the match 4-0.

"Congrats to South Alabama for getting the points at the position where they had a slight edge," said Hatters head coach Christophe Noblet. "We were mostly in control at the back of the lineup, but the set up today, starting on 3 courts, did not favor us. We will learn from today and get ready for a tough morning match vs Samford, and afternoon contest vs FSU."

Stetson's men's tennis team gets set for a quick turnaround as the team returns to action on Jan. 22 for a doubleheader. The Hatters begin Saturday's doubleheader at 10 a.m. with a match against Samford and then look to face FSU at 2 p.m.
