Hatters roll past Georgia Southern for an undefeated weekend

Box Score

DeLand, Fla. -- The Stetson University men's tennis team completed an undefeated weekend as the Hatters rolled past Georgia Southern 6-1 at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.

The Hatters (6-4) continued their success in doubles from the day prior against Atlantis University as Stetson took two of three in doubles matches to begin the afternoon. Georgia Southern's Tao Castillo and Jacob Mitchell topped Fabian Penzkofer and Tim Gennes to lead off the day. Stetson showed some resilience as Ervin Eminefendic and Sevn Thiergard took their match 6-3 to even up play. On court three, senior Diogo Marques and freshman Sami Ozzor played to a 7-5 decision to earn the point for the Hatters.

After doubles action, the Hatters cruised through singles play as Eminefendic made it a 2-0 Stetson lead after winning in two sets 6-3 and 6-1. Ozzor followed up Eminefendic with a win in two sets (6-1, 6-4) on court six to give the Hatters a 3-0 edge. On court two, Tristan Dumas sealed Stetson's second straight win as the freshman took the first set 6-3 and the second set 6-2.

"A decisive win today against a spirited opponent and it all starts with doubles," said head coach Christophe Noblet. "We played with a lot of enthusiasm and a much more aggressive mindset. From there it carries over to your singles and the guys responded well at every position."

Hatters men's tennis will be back in action on Wednesday, March 9 as Stetson hosts Youngstown State University at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. First serve is set for 3 p.m.
