DeLand, Fla – Stetson lost a tough battle to Pacific 3-4 on Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight match Stetson won the doubles point.
Marc Saura and
Lucas Olivier won 6-4 and
Alexandre Hillhouse and
Sven Thiergard sealed the point for the Hatters by winning 6-3. "We are playing better and better in doubles each day," head coach
Christophe Noblet said.
The Hatters and Tigers traded off singles points all the way until the final match of the day. Pacific took the first singles point as
Marc Saura lost 2-6,1-6. The Hatters were then able to get their first singles victory of the day from
Alexandre Hillhouse who won 6-2,6-0. On court two
Ervin Haris Eminefendic lost 4-6,2-6, which once again tied the overall score. Stetson's
Juan Jose Rodriguez Garceran was able to pick up a win 6-4,6-3 and put Stetson in front again 3-2. On court three
Lucas Olivier fell 4-6,4-6 to tie the score with court four left to finish.
Sami Ozzor could not complete a comeback as he lost in three sets 3-6,6-1,3-6 leading to a Pacific victory.
'It was a great battle from both teams, this was a really fun tennis match to coach as both teams gave their all. Obviously it is sad that we came up short, but everybody on my team should be proud of their performance as they gave it all physically and mentally," said head coach Noblet. "We have to take it one day at a time and get better on the few days to rest and recover and get back to it on Wednesday."
The Hatters will return to action on Wednesday at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center as they will host Washington U. (St. Louis).
