DeLand, Fla. — The Stetson men's tennis team opened play at the Mad Hatters Fall Invitational on Friday morning, posting an impressive performance against Boston College at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
The Hatters claimed a 5–1 advantage in singles and split the doubles courts to begin their home tournament with a statement.
After dropping the top doubles match to Boston College's duo of Matthew Carioscia and Matvey Greschner, Santiago Padilla Cote and Xavier Sarda responded with a 6–4 win over Liam O'Leary and Matthew Overvelde to level the doubles portion.
In singles, Christian Kuehne led the way with a straight-sets win over Carioscia, 6–3, 6–4, followed by Padilla Cote's commanding 6–2, 6–1 victory over Overvelde. Sarda added to the momentum, earning a 6–4, 6–2 win over Greschner, while Marc Saura battled through a third-set tiebreak to defeat Luke Levant 7–6(4), 1–6, 10–7. Kartik Mandla closed out the lineup with a dominant 6–1, 6–0 performance against Lucas Rao.
The Mad Hatters Invitational continues Saturday and Sunday in DeLand, with Stetson set to face Kennesaw State at 9 a.m. on Saturday and North Florida on Sunday afternoon at 12:30 p.m.
