JACKSONVILLE - Stetson's Isaki Sakashita has been named the 2025 ASUN Conference Freshman of the Year, becoming just the third Hatter in program history to earn the prestigious honor, and the first since Alex Buelow in 2010.
Sakashita is also the first golfer to receive a major ASUN superlative under Head Coach Teresa Brown, marking another milestone for the program's continued rise under her leadership.
Sakashita's debut season has been nothing short of spectacular. The freshman from Nara, Japan made an immediate impact for the Hatters, playing a key role in leading the team to four Top-3 finishes, including two tournament victories and a second place finish in the 2025 ASUN Championship.
Highlighting her season were a pair of ASUN Golfer of the Week awards and a stellar 72.4 scoring average — one of the best single-season marks in program history. She consistently delivered across all three rounds, averaging 73.1 in Round 1, 72.1 in Round 2, and finishing strong with a 72.0 average in Round 3.
Sakashita recorded six Top-10 finishes, five Top-5s, three Top-3s, and two runner-up performances. Her lowest round of the season came with a scorching 66 in the final round of the Sea Best Intercollegiate, tying a program record. Over the course of the year, she tallied 250 pars, 77 birdies, and two eagles.
Sakashita joins an elite group of Hatters to receive ASUN Freshman of the Year honors, following in the footsteps of Buelow (2010) and Lauren Cate (2009).
Joining Sakashita among the conference's best is junior Filippa Jansson, who was named to the All-ASUN Second Team following an impressive runner-up finish at the 2025 ASUN Championship.Â
