Hatters Sweep Doubles and Singles Against Kennesaw State at Mad Hatter Invitational

DeLAND, Fla. — The Stetson men's tennis team continued its impressive showing at the Mad Hatter Invitational on Saturday, sweeping all seven contested matches against Kennesaw State at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. The Hatters claimed all three doubles matches before adding four singles victories, extending their strong start to the final tournament of the fall season.

After opening the weekend with a doubles sweep and two singles victories against Embry-Riddle on Friday, Stetson carried that momentum into Saturday's competition, turning in its most complete performance of the tournament.

The Hatters once again set the tone in doubles, beginning with a 6-3 victory from Keoni Puig-McCallan and Kartik Mandla over Kennesaw State's Dominic Ducariu and Juan Parrilla. Christian Kuehne and Lukas Janousek followed with a 7-3 victory over Kyvan Rietkerk and Ben Hudson, while Gian Durrer and Alexandre Bergeron completed the sweep with a tightly contested 7-6 (6) win against Xavi Ferrer and Nathan Walters.

Stetson's success continued into singles competition, where Puig-McCallan, Kuehne, Janousek and Durrer each added victories.

Puig-McCallan led the way at the top singles position, defeating Ducariu in straight sets. The Stetson sophomore controlled the opening set before maintaining his advantage in the second, earning a 6-4, 6-4 victory to remain unbeaten in singles through the first two days of the tournament.

Janousek also delivered a convincing performance against Hudson, securing a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the third singles position. The result marked a strong response for Janousek after a closely contested three-set loss to Embry-Riddle's Stefan Mos on Friday.

Durrer continued his impressive weekend with another straight-set victory, defeating Ferrer 6-2, 6-4. After taking the opening set comfortably, Durrer held off Ferrer in a more competitive second set to complete the win. The victory improved Durrer to 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles through the opening two days of competition.

Kuehne's match against Walters provided one of the afternoon's more unusual finishes. Walters claimed the opening set 7-5, but Kuehne responded by taking a 3-2 lead in the second before Walters was forced to retire due to injury. The retirement awarded Kuehne the victory, completing Stetson's singles sweep.

Saturday's performance followed a productive opening day Friday, when Stetson won all three doubles matches against Embry-Riddle and split four singles contests.

Puig-McCallan and Mandla opened Friday with a 6-4 doubles victory over Joao Morgado and Stefan Mos, while Kuehne and Janousek defeated Joshua Nuyts and Frederic Tu 7-6 (5). Durrer and Bergeron completed the sweep with a 6-1 win over Pranav Kumar and Leon Emich.

In singles action, Puig-McCallan overcame an opening-set loss against Morgado to earn a 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 comeback victory. Durrer added a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Tu, while Kuehne and Janousek suffered setbacks against Nuyts and Mos, respectively.

Through two days of competition, Stetson has collected 12 victories across singles and doubles, including a perfect 6-0 record in doubles play. Puig-McCallan and Durrer have each won both of their singles matches, while all three Stetson doubles pairings remain unbeaten.

The tournament marks the final event of Stetson's fall schedule, which has included appearances at the Bedford Cup, ITA Southeast Regional Championships and Samford Invite. The Hatters entered the weekend following a successful showing at the Samford Invite, where Kuehne captured both the singles and doubles main draw championships, partnering with Janousek for the doubles title.

Stetson will conclude the Mad Hatter Invitational on Sunday morning when the Hatters face Xavier at 8:30 a.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center. Kennesaw State and Embry-Riddle will also meet at 8:30 a.m., with both matchups scheduled across three courts.
