Fort Myers, Fla. - The Stetson men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the Atlantic Sun Conference with a 7-0 sweep at Florida Gulf Coast (0-4, 0-1 A-Sun) Saturday afternoon. Five Hatters earned singles and doubles wins with only two singles matches being extended to a third set.
Senior Mark Mestan (Cologne, Germany) and freshman Didrik Berg (Oslo, Norway) along with sophomores Cesare Gallo (Portogruaro, Italy), Maksim Levanovich (Minsk, Belarus) and Njal Stene (Oslo, Norway) were all double winners for Stetson. Levanovich dropped just three total games in his #2 singles win over Carlo Checchia while Berg, Gallo and Hackett also won in straight sets.
In doubles, the Berg/Christopher Swanteson (Vaxjo, Sweden) and Gallo/Levanovich pairings were tested in 8-7 and 8-6 wins, respectively, while Mestan and Stene rolled past Mitchell Lvovsky and Sergio Rebolledo 8-1.
The Hatters return to action Saturday, February 13 when they host UCF at 12 p.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
