Open the Stetson baseball record book and it won’t take long to find Ned French’s name. In four seasons with the Hatters (1996-99), the Ormond Beach, Fla., native never hit below .325. A .349 career hitter, French is Stetson’s all-time leader with 340 hits. He also set school career marks for runs scored (239) and triples (18). The top offensive game of his career came on May 9, 1998, when he delivered a Stetson single-game record six hits against the College of Charleston. After earning Freshman All-American honors in 1996, French was a first-team All-ASUN selection in 1997 after batting .365 and collecting 40 stolen bases as the Hatters earned an NCAA Regional appearance for the second straight year. French is one of just four players in program history to steal at least 40 bases in a season, and he concluded his career as the second player to reach the century mark in career steals. French was inducted into the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2008.
