Author of the greatest season by a pitcher in Stetson history, Lenny DiNardo still dominates the Stetson record books nearly 20 years after he threw his final Stetson pitch. His 2000 season was simply incredible, as the left-hander posted a 16-1 record, a 1.90 ERA and struck out a school-record 132 batters in 132.2 innings. The 16 victories were also a record, smashing the old mark of 12 as Stetson rolled to a 48-16 team record, a pair of ASUN Conference championships, and two wins in the NCAA Atlanta regional where DiNardo tossed the Hatters to an opening-round victory against Auburn. For his efforts during that scintillating sophomore season, DiNardo was a consensus first-team All-America selection. But the 2000 season doesn’t tell the whole story for DiNardo. He finished his career with an impressive 35-10 record, and his 361 career strikeouts are still a program record despite playing only three seasons. A Freshman All-American during his rookie season and a third-team All-American in 2001, DiNardo also spent two summers pitching for USA Baseball’s Collegiate National Team, combining for an 8-1 record and 2.29 ERA. DiNardo was selected in the third round of the 2001 MLB Draft by the New York Mets. He spent parts of six seasons in the Major Leagues, pitching with Boston, Oakland and Kansas City. He was a member of the 2004 Boston Red Sox World Series championship team. A three-time first-team All-ASUN selection, DiNardo was inducted into the Stetson Athletics Hall of Fame in 2007.
